Stability for Seed and its Components in Rice (Oryza sativa L.) Under Low Temperature

G. Shanthakumar, K.B. Veerappa, R.C. Jagadeesha

Abstract

The Stability analysis in 34 genotypes for five characters viz., days to 50 per cent flowering, panicle length, spikelet fertility, 1000 grain weight and grain yield studied under three locations during winter. The variances for genotypes, environment and genotype environment interactions were significant. The difference in stability were due to both the linear response of the genotypes to environments and the deviation from the linear response. The genotype CA 74 and Hp 22 were suitable for cold conditions as they had high mean and their regression coefficients exceeded unity. Genotype Mukthi recorded high yield but low estimates of stability (bi<1) indicates its suitability for low yield environment conditions. Genotype KBCP1 was most stable showing highest grain yield, above average response and non significant deviations from regression. The use of these genotypes for future breeding programme has been suggested.
