Abstract

Heterosis for tomato leaf curl virus (TLCV) and fruit yield of 50F1 hybrids of tomato derived from Line X Tester crosses of 5 female (Alcobasa types) and 10 male parents were studied. The percent heterosis was found significant for most of the characters. It was found that genotypes with potato leaf characters are carry the genes for field resistance to TLCV. A few of them like 20/4 Alocobasa, 20/5 Alcobasa and 20/6 Alcobasa could be utilized as female parents in exploiting heterosis for TLCV resistance when crossed with L-58 and N-229 8MF6. The crosses 20/6 Alcobasa x L-58, 20/5 Alcobasa X N-229 8MF6 and 20/4 Alcobasa X L-58 have shown negative heterosis for TLCV and white fly count and recorded high fruit yield can be commercially exploited as summer hybrids.
