Abstract

The performance of seven tree species, namely, bengali jali. casuarina. rosewood, sissoo, eucalvptus, subabul and teak was evaluated on irrigated red sandy clay loam soils of Regional Research Station, Raichur, Karnataka, from 1983 to 1988. Trees were planted in strips (20 x 1 m) in east-west direction in 1983. At the end of the fifth year, eucalyptus produced significantly highest total dry matter per plant as compared to the other tree species. Similarly, the wood yield was significantly higher in eucalyptus (92:21 t/ha) than bengali jali (63.74 t/ha) and sissoo (58.45 t/ha) which were significantly superior to casuarina, subabul, teak and rosewood.
