Dominating Quality Characteristics of Cotton in Judging the Quality Standards of Different Cotton Varieties in Karnataka

Abstract


The present paper attempts to estimate the dominating quality characteristics of cotton in judging the quality standards of different cotton varieties in Karnataka. One hundred Ninetyfour cotton samples drawn from Raichur and Hubli markets of Karnataka were analysed at cotton classing centre, Surat. The factors namely colour, feel, ginning percentage, 2.5 percent span length, uniformity ratio, strength, micronaire value, and trash content were analysed instrument measurement and observation method. The result of the study revealed most dominating characteristics of different cotton varieties. The implication of this study could be a good guide for breeders and farmers to produce that particular variety of cotton having highest demand in the market.
