Abstract

In a field experiment in 1987/88, 1989/90 and 1990/91 in Karnataka, groundnuts cv. S-206 and sunflowers cv. Morden were grown alone or intercropped together in groundnut:sunflower row ratios of 2:1, 3:1, 4:2 or 5:1. Under intercropping. mean groundnut and sunflower yields were reduced by 30.6 and 37.7%, respectively. Intercropping in the row ratio 4:2 produced mean groundnut and sunflower seed yields of 0.85 and 0.49 t/ha, respectively, and the highest land equivalent ratio (1.38) and the highest net returns.
