M. Dinesh Kumar, K.S. Channabasappa, S.G. Patil

Abstract

An experiment to evolve a suitable technique to overcome summer stress in sugarcane was conducted at the Agricultural Research Station, Gangavati during 1992. Results revealed that besides recommended fertilisers, soil application of extra potash (50 kg/ha) along with last irrigation before summer canal closure recorded 108.80 t /ha and increased further to 112.89 t /ha in presence of mulch and remained close with the treatment receiving protective irrigation during summer (122.06 t/ha) apart from improving quality parameters. These treatments were found, beneficial with benefit cost ratio of 43.11 and 52.31, respectively. A foliar application of either potash alone (101.16 t /ha) or in combination with urea (100.77 t /ha) during summer was the second best alternate under moisture stress conditions.
