Abstract

To assess yield loss caused by the late leafspot fungal disease in bunch groundnuts, seven released Spanish groundnut varieties, four advanced breeding lines and a foliar disease resistant germplasm accession (PI 393516) were evaluated with and without fungicidal application in rainy seasons of 1991 and 1992. The disease development was observed at an early stage of crop growth and progressed fast in 1991 as compared to 1992, resulting in greater reduction in pod yield and its components in the first year. Though all varieties, except PI 393516, did not differ in disease development, significant variation was evident for yield (q/ha) in unprotected condition as well as magnitude of reduction in three yield components. Varieties JL 24 (13.7%) and Dh 40 (21.6%) were superior, while R 8972 (46.5%) and S 206 (44.0%) exhibited maximum yield loss due to the disease
