Abstract

A field experiment was conducted during kharif 2001-02 to know the effect of  herbicides applied alone or in combination with physical methods on the nutrient uptake by crops, associated weeds and on yield of crops. The results showed that the weeds when allowed till harvest depleted 72.31 kg N, 19.00 kg P2O5 and 30.39 kg K2O per hectare. Weed free check recorded significantly higher nutrient uptake by crops than all other treatments but was on par with the treatments which received application of herbicides combined with one Intercultivation and one Hand weeding. Among the integrated methods, pendimethalin 30 EC 1.0 kg a.i ha + one IC + one recorded significantly higher nutrient uptake (70.05, 21.92 and 77.74 kg N, P2O5 and K2O per ha, respectively by groundnut and 51.21. 13.91 and 78.23 kg N, P2O5 and K2O per ha, respectively by sunflower crop and higher pod (11.25 q/ha) and seed yield (6.12 q/ha) of groundnut and sunflower, respeclively.
