Occurrence and Population Dynamics of Millipedes in Different Agro-Climatic Zones of Karnataka

Abstract


During the Survey in the agro-climatic zones 8, 9 and 10 of northern Karnataka, six species of millipedes, viz. Phyllogonostreptus nigrolabiatus, Streptogonpus jeradani, Polydrepanum sp., K. lankaensis, Chondromorpha severini and C. mammifera were recorded. The millipede population was highest in the agro-climatic zone 9 followed by 10 and 8. Throughout the season garden soil inhabited maximum population of millipedes (6.9/m2) followed by black (5.89), red and grassland soil (3.29).
