Abstract

A field trial on screening of crops for wetland rice fallows on residual soil moisture was carried out for three successive years on lateritic soil at Agriculture Research Station, Sirsi. Sixteen crops including three cereals (wheat, sorghum maize), four oil seeds (sunflower, safflower, mustard, groundnut) and seven pulses (field bean, greengram, blackgram, horsegram, soybean, cowpea and bengalgram) were included in the study. In general, cereals did not show sufficient germination and growth on residual soil-moisture than other crops. Grain yields were higher in field bean (805) followed by cowpea (742) and soybean (664), Higher net income was recorded in cowpea, blackgram field, bean and soybean whereas lowest income was with bengalgram, greengram and groundnut.
