Abstract

The most promising remedy for iron chlorosis is exploitation of genetic variability in the crop for iron absorption efficiency. This needs a screening technique which should simulate practical situation and should facilitate year round screening. The experiment was conducted in groundnut with potted calcareous soil to meet the above needs. Eight cultivars of groundnut were tested in pots as well as field. Visual scores for iron chlorosis and chlorophyll estimations of plant samples were considered as criterion to classify cultivars into iron efficient and iron inefficient, the results in field and pot experiments were comparable and strong positive correlation was observed between two situation. The pot screening of genotypes was found to be most reliable and simpler method.
