Abstract

Experiments were conducted during 1980-81 to 1984-85 seasons on red lateritic soils of Agricultural Research Station, Bidar under well irrigation to identify suitable sugarcane variety for the zone. Higher cane yields were recorded with Co 7318 (122.3 t/ha) and Co 7219 (120.32 t/ha) which were higher by 16 and 15 per cent, respectively over the check variety Co 740 (91.27 t/ha). Co 70A-645 (111.73 t/ha) and Co 6907 (107.92) were next in order. Ratoon yield was higher with Co 7219 (104.24 t/ha). The quality of juice of these varieties was superior to Co 740. Recovery per cent was particularly high with Co 70A-645 and Co 6907 at all the stages of harvest
