Influence of Polyethylene Packaging on the Postharvest Life of Tuberose (cv. Single) Florets

D. Madaiah, T.F. Reddy

Abstract

Investigations were carried out to compare the effects of polyethylene (PE) packing with different levels of ventilation on storage life of tuberose florets under ambient conditions. Packaging tuberose florets significantly reduced physiological loss of weight (PLW), 300 gauge PE bags being the most effective. Packaging also maintained higher freshness, retained white colour for longer time, reduced rotting, thus extending the shelf life up of 4.6 days as compared to 1.3 days in case of non-packed controls. Packaging tuberose florets in 300 gauge PE bags with no ventilation was found most effective for extending the shelf life and maintaining the higher quality
