Effect of Different Concentrations of Selected Micronutrients and their Combinations on Growth, IAA, GA and EPS Production in Azospirillum brasilense

B. Amitha Ganapathy, V.P. Savalgi

Abstract

The laboratory experiment conducted to study  the effect of different concentrations (50, 100, 150 ppm) of selected micronutrients (Zn, Fe, Mo) individually and in combination on the growth, EPS, IAA and GA production of Azospirillum brasilense strains under liquid culture condition revealed supplementation of zinc @ 100 ppm individually has supported maximum log viable cell counts of 10.78 and 10.69 and exopolysaccharride production of 32 and 20 (ß/ml) in ACD 20 and ACD 15, respectively. Whereas, maximum growth of 10.86 and exopolysaccharride production (34 (ß/ml) by ACD L4 was noticed due to addition of iron to the broth. The higher IAA production of 5.53, 9.29 and 10.73 Jlgj 100 ml and GA production of 2.84, 3.43 and 3.66 Jlgj 100 ml was recorded in all three strains in broth supplied with 100 ppm of Zn over unsupplemented control.
