Cost of Production and Returns in Sweet Orange Cultivation

Abstract


The study was conducted in two mandals of Prakasam district, Andhra Pradesh. Sample consisted of 43 small and seven large orchards selected by random sampling. The expenditure on manures and fertilizers accounted for 47 per cent of the total followed by that on watch and ward, irrigation, labour and others. The yield on large orchards was 27,216 fruits per acre while that on small orchards was 23,662 per acre. The net returns on large orchards (Rs. 64 per thousand fruits) were less than those in small orchards (Rs. 81)
