Influence of Age, Family Size, Education of Parents and Family Income on the Perception of Parental Control by the Adolescents

Abstract


One hundred and twenty six adolescents in the age range of 13 to 18 years were selected from high schools and colleges in Dharwad city. The perception of parental control by the adolescents on different areas were elicited by using pretested questionnaire. The study revealed that older adolescents perceived that their parental control was less on their social and leisure time activity and more on their academic activity. Adolescents of educated parents felt that their parents control over academic activity was more than the adolescents whose parents had less education. Further, the adolescents who belonged to better income group perceived that their parental control over leisure time activity was less compared to the adolescents of poor income group
