Genetics of Charcoal rot Resistance in Rabi Sorghum

M.R. Gururaja Rao, S.J. Patil, K.H. Anahosur

Abstract

The genetics of charcoal rot resistance in sorghum as' indicated by non-lodging of inoculated plants was investigated through combining ablity analysis and components of variance analysis. Both general and specific combining ability variances were highly significant suggesting the importance of additive and non-additive gene action in the genetic control of this trait. The components of variance analysis furthr indicated predominance of additive gene action and moderate heritability. Dominant genes were more frequent than recessive genes in the parents selected. Low percentage of lodging indicated greater resistance due to high proportion of recessive genes in the parents
