Abstract

Investigations conducted on the response of cotton genotypes to dates of sowing during 1985-86 and 1986-87 revealed that early sowing in second fortnight of July produced more kapas yield compared to sowing in August first and second fortnights. There was an increase of 14.52 and 42.40 per cent in kapas yield with sowings done during second fortnight of July, compared to sowings of August first and second fortnights respectively. The higher kapas yield due to early sowing was mainly attributed to more number of open bolls and kapas weight per plant. Genotypes Sharada, AH 107 and Renuka gave 16.6,13.5 and 12.1 per cent higher kapas yield over the presently recommended variety, Suyodhar.
