Abstract

Experiments were conducted to study the influence of seed size on the germination and the initial growth of seedlings in Laxmi cotton at Agricultural Research Station, Dharwad. The results indicated that the earliness of germination hypocotyl ltngth, seedling growth, dry matter accumulation and seedling vigour were influenced by seed size. The medium sized seeds that were passed through 12/64" oblong sieve but retained on 11/64" round or oblong sieve germinated faster and produced vigorous seedlings than the bigger and smaller seeds
