Abstract

The diurnal changes in the total free amino acids and protein content during fruit bud differentiation (FBD) was studied. A significant increase in total free amino adds in buds was noticed. The lower content of total free amino adds in buds indicated that there was great demand for metabolites during FBD. The decrease in the content of total free amino adds in scar buds which were expected to produce vegetative growth showed involvement of total free amino adds in breaking quiescent phase of these buds. The involvement of total free amino adds in the synthesis of phenols is discussed
