Abstract

Field experiment was conductd during kharif from 1983-84 to 1985-86 to evaluate the performance of sorghum and pigeonpea genotypes under intercropping at Dharwad. Two genotypes of pigeonpea viz., C-ll and ST-1 were grown in the interpair space of paired rows (45/90 cm) of sorghum genotypes viz., CSH-6, CSH-9, SPV-346 and SPV-351. The varieties were comparable with hybrids in grain yield potential and produced higher fodder yields than hybrids. Between the pigeonpea genotypes, ST-1 produced increased yields under intercropping. The gross returns, though higher with some intercropping systems, were comparable to the best sole sorghum genotypes. The average of three years was highest (Rs. 13,149/ha) with SPV-346 + ST-1 followed by SPV-346 + C-ll system (Rs. 12,758/ha)
