C.G. Nagaraj, S.K. Thimmaiah, P.W. Basarkar

Abstract

A 80-day experiment was carried out in eight cement cisterns. Young ones of common carp, Cyprinus carpio (L.) were fed wiih natural fish food organisms, conventional fish feed and two pelleted feeds based on groundnut oil cake and safflower cake. Water quality and proximate composition of the fish flesh in all the treatments were almost similar. Common carp grew much better when fed with pelleted feeds. This study suggests the possible use of locally available feed ingredients in pelleted form for profitable fish rearing.
