Chemical Control of Downy Mildew of Maize Caused by Peronosclerospora Sorghi and Its Impact on Yield

H. Venkatesh, K.H. Anahosur

Abstract

Downy mildew of maize caused by Peronosclerospora sorghi has attained destructive status in parts of Karnataka. Metalaxyl (35 ws) at 1 and 2 g a.i./kg seed and metalaxyl Zm 280 FW at 2 g a i./kg seed as seed treatment gave complete control of downy mildew of maize as against 86.57% disease in check. The grain yield 4.11 kg/plot was recorded in Metalaxyl (35 ws) seed treated plot against 2.71 kg/plot in check. Thus an increase of 51.59% grain yield was recorded Similarly more fodder was recorded in treated plot (7.31 kg/plot) than in untreated plot (4.76 kg/plot) thus  realising an increase of 53.57% fodder
