S.S. Angadi, S.K. Gumaste

Abstract

The experiment was conducted to study the influence of legume species on quality of fodder in maize-legume mixed cropping system. Seven legumes viz , cowpea, horsegram, blacksoya, kidney bean, dolichos, clusterbean and greengram were tested, as sole as welt as mixeJl crops with South African maize. It was observed that maize grown in combination with blacksoya had given higher total crude protein (997 kg/ha), phosphorus (35.15 kg/ha) and ealcium yield (110.43 kg/ha) over sole maize. With this treatment combination the crude protein, phosphorus and calcium yields were increased to an extent of 19.54, 27.40 and 32.62%, respectively over sole maize. Next treatment in order was horsegram mixture. It is concluded from the present study that, blacksoya can be conveniently used for mixing with maize to get more nutritious fodder.
