Abstract

A collection of 225 blackgram cultivars was grown during summer and kharif seasons. A wide range of variability was noticed for different quantitative characters and the magnitude of variability differed in the two seasons. Heritability estimated was found to be invariably high for 100 seed weight in both the seasons followed by days to 50 percent flowering, first poding and maturity in the kharif season. High heritability combined with high genetic advance for 100 seed weight, days to 50 per cent flowering, first poding and maturity indicated simple selection based on phenotypic values-for these traits.
