Studies on the Biology of Red Flour Beetle, Tribolium castaneum Herbst. On Wheat and Dead Insect Specimens

Abstract


The biology of red flour beetle, Tribolium castaneum Herbst on wheat and powdered body contents of the dead rhinoceros beetle, Oryctes rhinoceros Linnaeus was carried out under laboratory condition during 1985-86. Egg, larval, pre-pupal and pupal pariod lasted for 5.0, 34.2, 2'.8 and 9 8 days on wheat and 4.2, 28.5. 2.4 and 9.7 days on dead rhinoceros beetle, respectively. Further the adult females lived on an average for 162.1 days on the dead rhino­ceros beetle.
