Histopatho logical Changes Induced in Root and Collar Regions of Fenugreek Plants by Infection of Rhizoctonia solani

C.K. Parthasarathy Prasad, P.C. Hiremath, S. Shyamsundar Joshi

Abstract

Transverse sections of root and collar regions with mycelium on the surface of apparently healthy tissue showed the presence of well organised infection cushions, chlamydospore like bodies over the epidermis and cortical cells were densely packed with hyphae and sclerotial like masses. Intra cellular hyphal strands were also quite common. While, in the discoloured regions without mycelium on the surface did not indicate infection cushions, sclerotial like bodies and hyphal strands. But cuticle and epidermis showed extensive damage. Maximum tissue destruction was seen in cortex and vascular bundles.
