Abstract

A field trial carried out at Regional Research Station Raichur, Karnataka State during 1987-88 on the population dynamics of Spodoptera litura (Fb.) using pheromone and light traps indicated its activity through out the year. However, the population was relatively large from July, 1987 to January, 1988. Pheromone trap showed its superiority over the light trap in trapping the insect.. Studies on the correlation between the moth catches and weather parameters in both the traps suggested that the relationship of the moth catches was significant and negative with average minimum and maximum temperatures; significant and positive with average morning relative humidity and insignificant and negative with rainfall. However, there was significant and positive humidity in case of light trap only. The regression analysis of trap catches with weather parameters indicated that all the weather parameters in combination influenced significantly the .catches to the extent of 42.0 and 40.6 per cent in phsromone and light traps, respectively.
