Genetic variability, character association and component analysis in F4 generation of fieldpea (Pisum sativum var. arvense L.)

Gariam Tiwari, G. Roopa Lavanya

Abstract

An experiment was conducted during rabi 2008-2009 to study variability and association among characters in fieldpea crosses in F4 generation. High GCV and PCV estimates recorded for seed yield per plant, whereas heritability estimates were found high for days to 50% flowering and for days to maturity and high excepted genetic advance as per cent of mean was recorded for seed yield per plant. The characters like number of branches/ plant, pod length, pods/ plant, seeds/ pod and seed index recorded high positive and significant correlation with seed yield, suggesting their potential use in fieldpea improvement. Days to maturity, plant height and pod length showed high positive direct effect on seed yield. These characters should be given due to priority during selection for fieldpea improvement
