National Rural Health Mission: Impact on rural mothers and children

Abstract
Health is a vital indicator of human development. Health standards in India have improved considerably since independence. Government has made deeper inroad into rural areas with focussed schemes like the National Rural Health Mission and have even started a scheme for health insurance for the poor population. The present study was conducted during the year 2010-2011 in Dharwad block of Karnataka state. Required data was collected by personal interview method from 210 respondents who were below poverty line and interpreted the data using suitable statistical parameters. Cent per cent of the village women preferred hospital delivery as it is very safe and opined that tips should not be given to the Auxiliary Nurse Mid wife in the Primary Health Centre to get allowance of Janani Suraksha Yojana. (Ninty one point three three per cent) Respondents agreed to the statement that health programmes motivate family members for safe hospital delivery. Mothers had appreciable knowledge on safety in the Government hospital, polio vaccine, and family planning programme. Cent per cent rural mothers have adopted immunization schedule for children.
