Abstract

An ex-post-facto design on “Interrelationship of marital and job satisfaction of selected University teachers” on a sample of 165 University teachers drawn from 3 cities of Karnataka in 2011-12, offering UG/PG courses in agriculture/science faculty belonging to Assistant professor to Professor and above cadre were randomly and proportionately selected. The marital satisfaction was assessed using the Marital Satisfaction Questionnaire developed by Haynes et al. (1992) and job satisfaction by Job Satisfaction Scale developed by Kanungo (1982). Results revealed that none of the University teachers showed either low marital satisfaction or low job satisfaction. Most of the SAU (83.8%) and Non-SAU (94.1%) teachers had high level of marital satisfaction. There were no main and interactionary effects of University, gender and cadre on marital satisfaction. Majority of the SAU (90.9%) and Non-SAU (87.3%) teachers expressed high level of job satisfaction. There was significant effect of gender. The male teachers had higher job satisfaction compared to the females. The interactionary effects of gender and university were also significant, indicating that the difference between gender was seen only among Non-SAUs while among SAUs no significant difference between gender was observed on job satisfaction. Marital satisfaction showed positive and significant relation with job satisfaction among both SAU and Non-SAU teachers, indicating that increase in marital satisfaction significantly increased the job satisfaction and vice versa of both the groups of teachers.
