Abstract

The present investigation was undertaken to study the efficacy of different insecticides for seed treatment, against rice weevil and pulse beetle. The treated wheat and cowpea seeds were exposed to the infestation by rice weevil Sitophilus oryzae and pulse beetle Callosobruchus chinensis and C.maculatus for four days. The development of test insect evidenced by the adult emergence, germination and moisture content of seeds were the criteria for testing the efficacy of different insecticides. The seed treatment with Spinosad 45 SC was observed to be the most effective treatment against S. oryzae, C. chinensis and C. maculatus with LC50 value of 0.08 ppm, 0.24 ppm and 0.05 ppm, respectively. Fenvelerate 20 EC was found least toxic. None of the insecticides affected the germination and moisture content of seeds.
