Knowledge gain of the rural women through environment and health programmes

Abstract


Krishi Community Radio Station, at the University of Agriculture Sciences Dharwad, caters to the need based programmes of its target area. In this target areas the knowledge of the women about health and environment is very low. The people also lack knowledge about preserving good environment for future generation and about their good health which are the essence of the day. Hence, an experimental study on“Knowledege gain of rural women through environment and health programmes of Krishi Community Radio Station” was conducted with the objective to assess the knowledge gain of the rural women through environment and health programmes through radio programmes. The sample size was 120 respondents who were selected from Yettinaguda and Narendra vilages of Dharwad Taluk. Results of the study showed that the mean gain in knowledge was highest in case of rural sanitation at 2.96 followed by reduce, recycle, reuse plastic 2.68, biodiversity 2.64, rain water harvesting 2.56, controlling household pests and increase in global warming 2.50, water borne diseases 2.46, indoor air pollution 2.43 and green leafy vegetables 2.36. During post test and in retention test also mean knowledge gain was highest in case of rural sanitation followed by green leafy vegetables, biodiversity, control in household pests, rain water harvesting, recycle, reuse plastic, increase in global warming, Indoor air pollution and Water borne diseases. Thus, from the results it is observed that radio played a vital role in giving the knowledge as well as helped in gaining the knowledge
