Effect of Method of Planting and Seed Treatment on Performance of WheatGenotypes Under Rainfed Condition

D. Shivamurthy, B.N. Patil

Abstract

A field experiment was conducted at Main Agricultural Research Station, Dharwad on black soil during rabi season 2004-05 to study the effect of method of planting and seed treatment on performance of wheat under rainfed condition.  Data on growth and yield of wheat differed significantly due to combination of genotypes with method of planting and seed treatment.  Among genotypes and method of planting combination, Bijaga yellow with skipping one row after every three rows recorded significantly higher growth components viz., plant height, number of green leaves, total dry matter production, LAI and LAD, yield characters like number of ear head per m2 area, number of grains per ear head and grain weight per ear head and grain yield (1781 kg/ha) as compared to those of Bijaga yellow with flat bed, DWR-2006 with flat bed and skip row method of planting.  Among seed treatments, seed treatment with cow urine and CaCl2 recorded significantly enhanced growth, yield components and grain yield (1767 kg/ha).
