Abstract

For the management of land snail, Cryptozona semirugata (Beck.) molluscicide, dehydrating agents, poison baits, and insecticide dusts were evaluated at the Main Agricultural Research Station, UAS, Dharwad during kharif 2012. Metaldehyde 2.5% pellets @ 5.0 kg/ha, common crystal salt @ 25 kg/ha, copper sulphate @ 100 g/kg bait and bleaching powder @ 25 kg/ha proved highly effective in recording higher per cent mortality of snail, C. semirugata (94.83, 89.03, 72.22 and 70.08, respectively) in greengram. Whereas, fenvalerate 0.4% dust at 25 kg/ha, 10% tobacco decoction, malathion 5% dust at 25 kg/ ha and lime powder at 25 kg/ha proved ineffective in controlling the snail by recording 0.47, 0.50, 3.92 and 7.22 per cent snail mortality, respectively. Further, highest grain yield of 6.39 q/ha was registered with metaldehyde 2.5% and common crystal salt (6.30 q/ha) treatments and was at par with each other but differed significantly with rest of the treatments. While, untreated control registered minimum grain yield of 3.22 q/ha. With respect to cost economics of different treatments, common crystal salt and metaldehyde 2.5% , have registered higher net returns of ` 25,328 and 23,155, respectively. The higher B:C ratio of 3.03 was obtained with common crystal salt treatment compared to all other treatments. Whereas, in the remaining treatments the BC ratio ranged from 2.13 to 2.59.
