Abstract

A field experiment was conducted during kharif 2011 to evaluate the performance of recently released pigeonpea hybrid ICPH-2671 under varied planning methods (transplanting and dibbling) and planting geometries (S1 - 90 x 30 cm,                   S2 - 90 x 60 cm, S3 - 90 x 90 cm, S4 - 120 x 30 cm, S5 - 120 x 60 cm, S6 - 120 x 90 cm).  The ruling variety Maruthi (ICP 8863) with recommended packages was taken as check. The results revealed that the transplanted hybrid pigeonpea recorded significantly higher grain yield (1899 kg ha-1) as compared to dibbled hybrid pigeonpea (1376 kg ha-1).  The yield parameters like number of seeds per pod, pod and seed weight per plant were higher with transplanted hybrid pigeonpea as compared to dibbled hybrid pigeonpea.  Among the planting geometries, wider planting geometry of 120 x 90 cm recorded significantly higher grain yield (1784 kg ha-1)  as compared to other planting geometries. The treatment combination of transplanting with 120 x 90 cm recorded significantly higher grain yield (2136 kg ha-1) as compared to other combinations. The growth and yield parameters followed similar trend.  The study indicated that hybrid pigeonpea responded better to transplanting with wider planting geometry.  The hybrid pigeonpea performed better than check Maruthi under both the planting methods.
