Incorporation of green manure crops on soil enzymatic activities under rainfed condition

T.C. Yogesh, S.M. Hiremath

Abstract

The experiment was conducted to determine the effect of incorporation of green manure crops on soil enzyme activity under rainfed condition during kharif seasons of 2011 and 2012 at the Agricultural Research Station, Annigeri. The experiment was laid out in RCBD design which comprised of three green manures (GM1: sunnhemp, GM2: green gram and GM3: cowpea) and a fallow treatment with twelve replications. Cowpea and sunnhemp produced significantly higher phytomass (14.04 and 12.49 t/ha, respectively), biomass (2.29 and 2.26 t/ha, respectively), TDMP (468.33 and 438.33 g/m2, respectively) and nutrient content and nutrient accumulation than green gram. Cowpea and sunnhemp incorporated plots also recorded significantly higher dehydrogenase and phosphatase activities in soil than green gram green manure crop and fallow.
