Extent of Participation, Benefits Derived and Suggestions Offered by the Participant Farmers of the Watershed Development Programme

Abstract


The study conducted in Raichur district to know the extent of participation and benefits derived by participant farmers of the watershed development programme during the year 2004-05, revealed that majority of the respondents (70.00%) had medium extent of participation in watershed development activities and cent per cent participation was observed in activities like collection of benchmark information, identification and analysis of problems, determining the needs, consulting officials of watershed, programme determing the location for construction of nalabunds and constitution of village watershed committee.  Majority of the respondents (82.00%) expressed that the programme was useful as it helps to check soil and water erosion; followed by ground water recharge (80.00%), increases yield (74.00%) and helps in increasing the cropping intensity (64.66%).
