Migration of agricultural labourers in relation to selected demographic characters

Abstract


In this article an effort was made to find out the incidence of migration and correlation between the various demographic features viz., land per capita, education, size of the family, income and caste with the migration. The required data was collected from Belgaum district of Karnataka. Bailhongal, Chikkodi and Gokak taluks were selected for the study based on the highest labour population. Three villages from each of the selected taluk were randomly selected. In the next stage 17 households of each village were selected for the study. Totally, it considered of 153 households. The results for the correlation coefficients between variable migration and the land per capita, size of the family, education, income and caste revealed that there was significant relation between the land per capita and migration. The significant relation also existed even with family income and the migration.
