Health status of the parents from dual and single parent families

Abstract


The study was conducted to know the health status of 60 dual and 60 single parent families selected from class D workers of the University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad during 2013-14. The self structured questionnaire, Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research health questionnaire and socio economic status scale was used to collect the required information. The results revealed that the mothers from the dual parent families (60%) showed more of neurotic symptoms than the mothers of the single parent families (56.6%). There was close association among the mothers occupation with respect to general health status among single parent families. There was no association between the occupation of fathers and mothers from dual parent families with respect to their health status. There was significant association between socio economic status and health status of mothers from single parent families.
