Abstract

A field experiment was conducted at AICRP on Palms (Oil Palm), ARS Campus, Gangavathi, University of Horticultural Sciences, Bagalkot to evaluate the intercrops in young oil palm garden. The different vegetables viz., Brinjal, Tomato, Okra, Chilli, Onion, Cluster Bean and French beans were grown as intercrops in juvenile garden of the oil palm. There is ample scope for intercropping in oil palm plantation during initial years of planting since the canopy is not fully developed. Among the different vegetables Okra & Tomato recorded higher yield than other vegetables. During 2013, the tomato intercropped with oil palm recorded the significantly higher fruit yield than other vegetables. During 2014, the okra recorded the significantly higher fruit yield per ha over other vegetables. Whereas, the pooled data of two years indicated that, the vegetable okra intercropped with oil palm recorded higher fruit yield per plant, fruit yield per plot, fruit yield per ha and higher gross return net returns and BC ratio.  The Okra intercropped with oil palm recorded higher net return (` 56,979.0 ha-1) and BC Ratio (3.91) compared to other vegetables intercropped with young oil palm garden
