Abstract

Experiment was conducted at the Agricultural Research Station, Madenur,   Hassan district during Kharif 2005 and 2006 to evaluate the efficacy of insecticidal formulations against potato aphid, Myzus persicae Sulzer and thrips, Thrips palmi  Karney on potato, Solanum tuberosum L. The results revealed that application of imidacloprid 200 SL @ 0.5 ml/l recorded 0.04 aphids/ compound leaf at 10 days after spray as against the initial count of 19.15 aphids/compound leaf.  The thrips count was 0.05 at one day after spray as against the initial count of 4.78 thrips/compound leaf.  The next best treatment was sequential spray of dimethoate 30 EC - monocrotophos 36 SL and oxydemeton methyl 25 EC - NSKE   5 per cent which recorded 0.40 and 0.45 aphids at 10 days after spray as against the initial count of 20.16 aphids/compound leaf respectively. The highest tuber yield of 138.89 q/ha was recorded in imidacloprid 200 SL treated plot followed by 133.49 and 133.33 q /ha in the sequential spray of spray of dimethoate 30 EC - monocrotophos 36 SL and Oxydemeton methyl 25 EC - NSKE 5 per cent, respectively
