Determinants of knowledge about organic manure practices by the cotton and soybean farmers in Akola district

Abstract


The study was conducted in Akola district of Maharshtra State. The sample consisting of 150 respondents growing both cotton and soybean. The results revealed that the medium (48.67%) to low (45.33%) level of knowledge was observed about organic manure practices with the cotton and soybean growers. More than one third (36.67%) of the respondents were having moderately favourable attitude followed by 33.33 per cent of the respondents had less favourable attitude and 30.00 per cent of respondents had possess highly favourable attitude towards organic manure application. The regression analysis shows that the decreasing land holding, less animals possession, less availabilities of organic manures, low productivity of cotton are the important contributory factors with the knowledge of organic manure practices by the cotton and soybean growers. This study implied that extension functionaries should create awareness and change the attitude of the farming community about various organic manure practices, so it will useful for developing and practicing an integerated plant nutrient supply system (IPNS). It involves combined use of chemical fertilizers with organic manures for maintaining soil health as well as fertilizer use efficiency
