Socio-economic characteristics and information seeking behaviour of women federation members

Abstract


Self help groups have successfully demonstrated their role in the process of women empowerment and have crossed several milestones with enduring results. Federations of SHG have been emerged to strengthen further the process of women empowerment. The study was taken up in three federations with sample of 8 SHGs and 80 women members. The study revealed that majority of the members belonged to middle aged group, medium family size, participated in 1-2 training, possess low farm resource base, medium social contacts and organization participation. The information seeking behavior involves participation of extension activities such as krishimela (67.50 and 50%), group meeting (57.50 and 42.50%), training (52.50 and 40%) and limited mass media (57.50 and 45%) in case of SKDRDP and IDF federation, respectively
