Abstract

A study was conducted to assess available nutrient status of soils of Dundur village in north Karnataka by GIS technique. Seventy five samples (0-20 cm) drawn from the farmers’ fields were analysed for their fertility status and mapped by geographic information system (GIS) technique. The pH of soil samples was alkaline. Soil organic matter content of the entire area was low. Available nitrogen status was low (96.78% area), phosphorus; low to medium (low; 84.04% area, medium; 15.96% area), potassium; high and sulphur; low to medium (low; 82.40% area, medium; 17.60% area) in the study area. Regarding available micronutrients, major portion of the area was deficient in zinc (deficient; 71.96% area, and 28.04 % area sufficient) iron and boron. Whereas, copper and manganese were sufficient in these soils.
