Factors of intelligence among lambani school children of Bellary district at Karnataka

Abstract


75 students were selected for assessment of factors of intelligence among lambani school children was conducted at Hoovinahadagali taluk, Bellary district during 2012-13. The children of 9-11 years of age studying in 4th and 5th standards were randomly selected from 5 government primary schools. Factors of intelligence by WISC-III - Wechsler intelligence test for school children and Nutritional Status assessed by anthropometric measurements. The results revealed that 40 per cent of children had normal nutritional status while 60 per cent of children had short, long or chronic type of malnutrition. The overall mean scores for different tests of verbal comprehension indicated that normal children scored higher (84.3) than malnourished children i.e., stunted, wasted and wasted and stunted (58.5, 53.0 and 47.9 respectively), in  case of perceptual organization factor indicated that normal children scored higher (91.5) than malnourished children i.e., stunted wasted and wasted and stunted (58.9, 45.6 and 44.2 respectively). And  in  Processing speed  factor  indicated that normal children  scored  higher (102.7) than malnourished children i.e., stunted, wasted and wasted and stunted (81.4, 68.2 and 65.7 respectively) and there was significant difference found between all factors and nutritional status .
