The Deccani variety of wool is of coarser type and is mainly used for carpet grade. The average yield of wool from this breed is less and is of poor quality. The shepherds of the certain communities are indulged in blanket weaving using Deccani wool. The present investigation was focussed on developing a protocol for finishing Deccani wool blanket with three different softeners. The cationic, non ionic and silicon softener was used for the optimization of the softening protocol. Based on the highest GSM and tensile strength retained after softening treatment, the parameters i.e., concentration of softener, pH and temperature of the bath and treatment time was optimized. On an average the optimum conditions for all the softener were found to be slight acidic (pH-6), 1 per cent concentration, 30 min of treatment time and 40°C bath temperature.
