Abstract

A study was carried out in the year 2014-15 in Dharwad taluk with the objective to assess the couple satisfaction of rural and urban young married couples and to know the relationship between selected demographic variables and couple satisfaction of the couples. A total of 120 couples were randomly selected from 29 kalyan mantaps/community halls in rural and urban Dharwad. Couple satisfaction was assessed using Couple Satisfaction Index developed by Funk and Rogge (2007) while socio economic status was assessed using Socio-Economic Status scale developed by Aggarwal et al. (2005). The data was also collected through structured questionnaire method along with personal interview of the respondents. The result revealed that urban couples (78.3%) had high level couple satisfaction than rural couples. Rural couples (68.3%) had medium level of couple satisfaction. It was observed that there was highly significant difference between rural and urban couples. Couple satisfaction was negatively significant with duration of marriage, number of children, age of first child and respondent’s age when first child born.
