Abstract

Anthracnose of mango caused by Colletotrichum gloeosporioides (Penz.) Penz. and Sacc. is one of the major pre and post harvest disease of mango (Mangifera indica L.). Among the surveyed villages in North West Karnataka during kharif 2014, PDI (Per cent disease index) on leaf in mango orchards ranged from 28.89 to 47.11 and maximum PDI was recorded in the orchard of Navagaddi village of Ankola taluk (47.11) and least PDI (28.89) was recorded in the orchard of Shivur village of Kundagol taluk. Among the surveyed taluks maximum PDI was recorded in Ankola taluk (43.36) followed by Khanapura taluk (41.53). Minimum PDI was recorded in Kundagol taluk (31.60). The Survey result confirmed that, high disease severity was mainly due to high cumulative rainfall and vice versa. Spacing, age of the tree and varieties are also influenced on the anthracnose disease severity.
