Abstract

Woman is the backbone of agricultural task force and they do most tedious and back breaking tasks in agriculture. The need of the hour is to strengthen their participation by empowering them with gender friendly technologies that helpin increasing the production and also reduce drudgery for those who carry out the farming operations. To reduce theirdrudgery and for increasing their work efficiency, need based women friendly improved agriculture technologies weredeveloped and these technologies were tested and refined in women perspective. Hence the study was conducted onEmpowerment of women in Ground nut production system through drudgery reducing technology. This study wasconducted in Dharwad district of Karnataka state. The study comprised of 150 samples. The results depicted that genderparticipation and technology usage in Groundnut production system in Pod plucking is completely women exclusiveactivity wherein cent percent women participation was observed followed by decortications of groundnut and weedingactivities performed by 86.67 percent and 70.67 percent women respectively. Bundling and bunching activity is found tobe women dominating activity. With regard to Performance evaluation of different types of improved Groundnut Strippersas compared to conventional method the improved groundnut strippers i.e., KVK UAS Dharwad model and CIAE Bhopalmodel have proved their excellence in pace of work and work output. As pace of work and work output is increased withthe usage of KVK, UAS Dharwad model and CIAE Bhopal model, groundnut strippers, and in turn reduced the labourwages and labour needed. The results of study also depicted that all improved groundnut decorticators have proved theirexcellence in pace of work in comparison with traditional method of deshelling the groundnut. It is statistically provedhighly significant on all the parameters studied namely Pace of work, human power used, work output per hour, Drudgeryscores and disorder scores. Hence, these technologies are found to be very useful and women friendly and can be recommendedfor the empowering the farming community.
